Education Business Link Organisations (EBLOs)

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) has created local Education Business Link Organisations (EBLOs), which help schools develop their links and provide support.  One invaluable service they provide is to help arrange secondment opportunities for teachers who need to strengthen or refresh their own work experience.  Visit:
www.dfes.gov.uk/ebnet/home/aims.cfm.

Department for Education & Skills (DfES)

The DfES has set up a 14-19 Gateway of advice and updates at:
www.dfes.gov.uk/14-19.

Business in the Community (BITC)

The education team at Business in the Community focuses upon three areas of work: basic skills, employability and leadership, e.g. Northern Ireland at:
www.bitc.org.uk/programmes/programme_directory/education.

Local Education Authorities (LEAs)

Your own LEA may employ a 14-19 co-ordinator who can help by providing advice and support activities.  Some LEAs are developing their own  web pages.  An example is the East Riding of Yorkshire LEA at:

Care Council for Wales

The Care Council for Wales was established in October 2001 to promote high standards of conduct and practice among social care workers and high standards in their training. Their aim is to ensure children and adults who are receiving social care services should be able to rely on a workforce that is properly trained, appropriately qualified and effectively regulated

Northern Ireland Social Care Council

NISCC has a statutory duty to quality assure and regulate standards of education and training for social work at qualifying (Degree) and post-qualifying levels. As the NI member of the Skills for Care & Development alliance (Sector Skills Council for the social care and children's services workforces) NISCC works to improve standards through workforce training and development.

Skills for Care

Working in consultation with carers, employers and service users, Skills for Care aims to modernise adult social care in England, by ensuring qualifications and standards continually adapt to meet the changing needs of people who use care services.

They do this by developing national standards and a qualification framework for our sector; collecting skills data and researching issues affecting carers and people who use care services; creating a national workforce development strategy for all sectors; building employer-led regional support networks to liaise with health, local government and education at local, regional and national level.

Skills for Health

The UK health sector employs some two million people across a range of public, independent and voluntary organisations. Skills for Health works with employers and other stakeholders to ensure that those working in the sector are equipped with the right skills to support the development and delivery of healthcare services.

Children’s Workforce Development Council

The Children's Workforce Development Council aims to improve the lives of children and young people. It does this by ensuring that the people working with children have the best possible training, qualifications, support and advice. It helps children and young people's organisations and services to work together, so that the child is at the centre of all their services.
